When I ask students how they feel about group projects, they often give a negative response because of bad experiences with problematic groupmates, such as free-riders who do not contribute, or members who bulldoze their ideas through while disregarding their peers.
After many semesters of mediating disputes among group mates, I have found that many of these issues stem from concerns about saving ‘face’. This leads to a lack of much-needed communication.
Part of NUS Arts Festival 2018, in celebration of NUS Indian Dance’s 40th anniversary and in collaboration with NUS Department of Geography, Maya Yatra portrays the struggles and triumphs of contemporary young women in today’s modern yet patriachal society.

What Is a MOOC?
A massive open online course (MOOC) is a model for delivering learning content online to any person who wants to take a course, with no limit on attendance.
Blended learning is not new. NUS teachers have been using blended learning as a teaching strategy over many years.
Despite the challenges of COVID-19, NUS was able to continue in our educational mission, through thoughtful use of online learning and assessments. It is likely that, as the situation improves to a “new normal”, we will continue to leverage on online or hybrid learning to help improve student learning outcomes. Being mindful of the different needs of our teachers and students, we have launched the Blended Learning 2.0 (BL 2.0) initiative.
This BL2.0 resource will guide colleagues as they think about designing and implementing blended learning modules.

The flipped classroom format is a type of blended learning where students are required to do some preparatory work – such as watching lecture videos or completing some assignments – before coming to a face-to-face class to work on more challenging problems with the facilitation of an instructor.

One of the interesting topics that arise when I converse with students is how many of them struggle to remember what they did in modules from previous semesters.
Such discussions got me thinking about how to design learning activities that are unforgettable. There is a quote famously attributed to Albert Einstein who said that “education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learnt in school”. And I want to ensure that my students remember what they have learned from me especially after all the hard work that they have put into my course.

Since I began teaching in 2017, I found that there are other challenges to interdisciplinary learning unique to this generation of students. The challenges to interdisciplinary learning are more psychological in nature. In my discussions with students, I found that many have high levels of anxiety when it comes to learning something outside their intended major.
